PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a practical method for producing an optically active β-amino alcohol having an anti-configuration from an easily available α-iminocarbonyl compound as a starting raw material. SOLUTION: This method for producing an optically active β-amino alcohol of the formula: Ra-C*H(OH)-C*H(NH2)-Rc has a process for making hydrogen to act on a compound of the formula: Ra-Co-C(=NORb)-Rc in the presence of an optically active transition metal compound and a base to obtain the optically active β-iminoalcohol of the formula: Ra-C*H(OH)-C(=NORb)-Rc and a process for reducing the obtained β-iminoalcohol (in these formulas, Ra, Rb and Rc are each an alkyl, an alkenyl, a cycloalkyl, an aralkyl or an aryl which may have one or more substituents, respectively, or the like; C* is asymmetric carbon atom). |
