<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a reflection type liquid crystal projector lower in price and lightweight. SOLUTION: The reflection type liquid crystal projector which puts together R, B, and G images displayed by LCDs 24, 28, and 32 for R, B, and G to project their composite image on a screen through a projection lens 36 is equipped with a polarized light converting element 12 which converts the white light outputted by a light source 10 into an S-polarized light, a color separating element 40 which separates R, B, and G lights from the S-polarized light, converts the G light into a P-polarized light, and make the output directions of the R light perpendicular to those of B and G lights and equalizes the output directions of the B and G lights, a 1st PBS 52 which reflects the R light outputted from the color separating element 40 to irradiate the LCD 24 for R and outputs its reflected light, a 2nd PBS 54 which reflects the B light outputted from the color separating element 40 to irradiate the LCD 28 for B, transmits the G light to irradiate the LCD 32 for, and outputs respective reflected lights, and a dichroic prism 56 which puts together and output the R, B, and G lights outputted from the 1st and 2nd PBSs 52 and 54 to the projection lens 36.</p> |
