A computer based method for controlling an industrial process (P) which comprises at least two unit processes (UP1, UP2, UP3), comprising the steps of: directly controlling the process by means of a model (1) comprising one or more algorithms; delivering process data (Q, T) from the process (P) to the control model (1). The method comprises the further step of executing an automatic diagnose of the validity of the process data (Q>i<, T>i<) retrieved from the process (P) for the purpose of preventing irrelevant process data from being used as input in the control model (1).
