PURPOSE: A rear shock absorber minimizes the rapid variation of a damping force, thereby improving the ride comfort and the characteristics of a handling performance. CONSTITUTION: A middle groove(52A) having an enlarged section between a piston valve and the wall surface thereof for allowing the flow of a fluid is formed on the inner tube(52) when unloading. An upper groove(52B) and a lower groove(52C) extended from the middle groove(52A) and having a reduced section smaller than a section where the outer periphery surface of a piston valve(56) and the inner periphery surface of the middle groove(52A) is connected are formed on the upper portion and the lower portion of the middle groove(52A). The flow rate of the fluid is controlled by stages when the piston valve(56) is moved from the middle groove(52A) to the upper groove(52B) or the lower groove(52C) according to the loading direction of the piston valve(56).
