The plug (100) consists of a spiral of a supple and elastic resorbable biocompatible material, e.g. a collagen. alginate, dextran, casein or a combination of these, capable of radial expansion to fill a bone cavity. The coils of the spiral can be in contact with or separate from one another, and its cross-section can be hollow or closed, with at least one of its two ends (120, 120') extended to form a seal. An auxiliary instrument can be used to compress the spiral prior to insertion, after which it is released to take up the space in a bone cavity.
