PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expansion valve in which a rod is arranged without fixing the rod to a valve element nor attaching an O-ring, etc., to the rod and the periphery of the rod can be assembled easily. SOLUTION: In an expansion valve, a rod 20 arranged freely movably forwards and backwards is positioned between a power element 30 which operates correspondingly to the temperature and pressure of a low-pressure refrigerant fed from an evaporator 1 and a valve element 16. The rod 30 is arranged so that the rod 30 may be moved freely forwards and backwards in the axial direction by such a frictional resistance that allows the rod 20 to drop in the axial direction by its own weight without fixing the rod 20 to the valve element 16. In addition, a stopper 23 which regulates the further axial movement of the rod 20 in the opening direction of the valve is provided at the position at which the valve element 16 is fully opened, or another position at which the valve element 16 becomes more distant from a valve seat hole 15.
