PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce plotting time required to display dot matrix characters. SOLUTION: All of the character display region is painted out with '3' as background color data (b2). Then, font data are read and if the data are '1' which indicates a display color (b3), a display color '5' is overwritten as bit map data (b4). If the font data are '0' indicating a background color, no operation is performed and it moves to a next dot position (b5). Since no need to expand all dots, the processing time is reduced. Moreover, if characters have many background colors, the number of overwritings with a character color is reduced and the overall processing time is further reduced.
