PURPOSE: A back retarding basin caisson for a breakwater is provided to prevent damage against the vibration of a caisson, to maximize seawater inflow efficiency and to facilitate the production of the caisson by simplifying structure. CONSTITUTION: An entrance(3a) is formed for the inflow of seawater in the lower part of a caisson. A seawater inflow passage(3) is connected to the entrance, penetrated by the middle part of the caisson in the lower part, and extended to the upper part of the caisson. A retarding basin(4) is surrounded with a front wall(2), a rear wall(5), a bottom(6), a cover(7) and a partition(9) in the rear side of the seawater inflow passage. A seawater inflow port(2a) is formed in the middle of the front wall. Then, the seawater inflow passage and the retarding basin are passed through the seawater inflow port. A drain passage(8) discharges the seawater of the retarding basin. Many retarding basins are formed in a row along the caisson.
