PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a more suitable picture according to the use condition of a user with respect to display devices which realizes both of a state in which importance is attached to the area of color reproduction and a state in which importance is attached to brightness, especially, a projection type display device. SOLUTION: This device is a display device forming a color picture by modulating plural lights whose colors are different each other by one or plural pieces of display elements and is provided with a means changing the purity of the color of at least a light by pulling in or drawing out a wavelength selecting element with respect to the optical path of the light of at least a color among the plural lights or by changing the posture of the element and a means notifying a user of whether the wavelength selecting element with respect to the optical path of the light of at least a color is present or not or the posture of the wavelength selecting element in the optical path of the light of at least a color. |
