PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the trouble of all of light emitting sources by a synchronism detecting signal by eliminating the shift of a writing start position in a main scanning direction by eliminating the shift in the generating timing of the synchronism detecting signal. SOLUTION: In an image recording apparatus equipped with an optical scanning means having an LDA wherein a plurality of light emitting sources are arranged and a means for detecting the trouble of the light emitting sources, a light emitting source changeover control means for controlling the writing of an image due to the LDA is provided as follows. The light emitting source changeover control means performs control so as to set the light emitting source emitting light in order to allow a synchronism detection sensor 7 to form a synchronism detecting signal to a specific LD 4a among LDs 4a-4d at a time of image recording operation and to change over the light emitting source emitting light in order to form the synchronism detecting signal to either one of the LDs 4a-4d successively at a time other than the time of image recording operation.
