PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production process that can form 3-alkyltetrahydrofuran with industrial advantage without formation of water as a by-product, from a readily available feedstock. SOLUTION: The objective 3-alkyltetrahydrofuran is produced by subjecting a 3-alkyl-3-butene-1-ol represented by the general formula (I) (R is an alkyl) to the cyclization reaction in the presence of iodine.
