PURPOSE: To obtain an ink jet recording ink free from clogging of an ink- discharging nozzle due to deposited material by blending water with a coloring agent capable of dissolving or dispersing into water, a polyhydric alcohol-based solvent and a penetrating agent so as to control humic acid content to a specific amount. CONSTITUTION: A coloring agent comprising a direct dye, an acid dye, a basic dye, a reactive dye, disperse dye, pigment, etc., capable of dissolving or dispersing in water is added to an ion exchange water obtained by carrying out ion exchange treatment of water with a strongly acidic cation exchange resin and a strongly basic anion exchange resin and the mixture is blended with a penetrating agent comprising at least glycol-based solvent (e.g. polyethylene glycol) and/or a polyhydric alcohol-based solvent (e.g. glycerin) and a lower alkyl alcohol (e.g. metyl alcohol) to provide the objective ink jet recording ink having humic content reduced to <=2ppm, not forming deposition in an ink discharge nozzle and free from clogging of the nozzle. |
