The invention relates to enameled, optically brightened printing paper consisting of a coating base paper and an applied enamel coating made of a pigment, a binder and coating auxiliary agents. Said invention is characterized in that the optical brightener is applied to the outer side of an enamel layer. A method for the production of an enameled, optically brightened printing paper is characterized by the following combination of characteristics: a coating base paper is coated with an enamel, containing white pigments and a binder in amanner known per se, using rollers, nozzles, blades or scrapers. The coating is dried in a manner known per se by IR- radiators, hot air or cylinder contact . An aqueous solution containing an optical brightener is applied to the dried upper side of the enamel layerand optionally dried again.
