<p>1432683 Hitch socket locks E A LONGENECKER 9 July 1973 [10 Nov 1972] 32533/73 Heading B7J A hitch socket lock consists of a casing 5 adapted to block the socket with an abutment 13 which prevents withdrawal of the casing when a key operated lock body is engaged in a cavity 16, the casing having a groove 9 in which a flange 8 of the socket enters, the lock body contacting the flange in use of the lock. In the embodiment of Fig. 4 a pivotal lever 23 is held against the inner surface of the socket to prevent removal of the casing by a lock body retained within the casing but movable longitudinally to allow the lever to fall and make release of the casing possible. In the embodiment of Fig. 8 (not shown) a locking lever is pivoted to the casing about an axis located in use of the lock outside of the socket. In the Fig. 11 embodiment the lock body in use of the lock retains a spring loaded cap 46 at the top of a post 47 where it cams into engagement with the inner surface of the socket. In the Fig. 14 embodiment the lock is retained on the socket by a finger 60 mounted on a slidable rod 61 and held in a forward position by lock body 67. An a modification the rod is both slidable and rotatable, Fig. 20 (not shown) illustrates a further embodiment in which the lock is retained in position by a pivoted lever.</p> |
