PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the necessity for always ensuring a work memory corresponding to four planes even if a color printing mode is designated and to allot the empty region corresponding thereto, that is, the same size as the work memory region corresponding to three remaining planes to an encoding data memory region. SOLUTION: When a color printing mode is designated, a CPU 2005 analyzes band encoding expression data to judge whether the work regions corresponding to a plurality of colors are necessary at the same time and obtains the work regions corresponding to a different number of colors from an RAM 2010 on the basis of the judge result to variably set the allotment of a raster image to the RAM 2010 on the basis of the number of the obtained work regions.
