PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfactorily realize the removal of contaminant included in a solid phase, a liquid phase or a vapor phase by adequately utilizing the characteristic of charcoal. SOLUTION: Wooden material is carbonized at the carbonizing temperature at which the carbonized material exhibits the selective adsorption ability for the specific contaminant as a removal object and, thus, the charcoal for adsorbing the specific contaminant is produced. In the case of Hg as the specific contaminant, the carbonizing temperature is set to be 400-1,400 deg.C. Powder of the charcoal is compounded in synthetic fiber material and charcoal-containing composite fiber is spun. The charcoal-containing composite fiber is made strand-shaped to produce linear adsorbing material 22, which is extended onto an extension frame member 21 in a netlike shape such as a grid shape to form adsorbent 2. The adsorbent is disposed in plural steps against the direction of flow in the flow passage 1 through which waste water including the specific contaminant flows. Almost 100% of the specific contaminant in the waste water is selectively adsorbed by the linear adsorbent. Alternatively, the adsorbent which is formed by fixing woven planar adsorbent on the frame member also can be used. When the charcoal is used as it is, log-shaped charcoal may be charged and arranged against the direction of flow in plural steps.
|
