PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To mount a cover by surely positioning backbone cover position of the cover at a gathered bundle made of a gathered fold section by a gathering machine. SOLUTION: The cover mounting apparatus comprises a computer 14 for image processing such as calculating, comparing and the like image data from a CCD camera to send a signal for positioning a backbone of a cover 6 to each guide, a pulse generator 20 for generating a pulse signal responsive to a moving amount of a feeder chain, a cover position detector 15 provided between the camera and a cover adhering unit to detect a leading end of the cover or a reference position, a counting circuit 21 for counting the pulse signal from the generator according to a command from the detector to stop counting when the number of the counted pulses arrives at the number of the pulses corresponding to a distance between the camera preset by the number of the counted pulses and the detector, and a controller provided in the compute 14 to command starting of picking up of image by the camera based on stopping of counting from the counting circuit.
