PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve safety and reliability of a device by controlling operation of a compressor through detection of the pressure of the device, in a high pressure gas generating device having a high pressure gas compressor to generate high pressure gas by compressing sucked gas. SOLUTION: This device comprises a pressure accumulator 20 for gas compressed by a high pressure gas compressor; and a suction gas shut-off valve to open and close the suction passage of the high pressure gas compressor. Operation of the compressor and opening and closing of a suction gas shut-off valve 34 are controlled according to the pressure of the accumulator 20. A check valve 37 is situated in series to the suction gas shut-off valve 34 in the suction passage of a high pressure gas compressor 100 and a safety valve 30 is provided to relieve high pressure gas exceeding a given upper limit value.
