PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester which exhibits good transparency of a bottle and good crystallization of a mouth plug part and hardly generates contamination of a mold during molding by decreasing contamination of a treating tank and pipelines when polyester chips are treated with water. SOLUTION: In a method for preparing a polyester wherein polyester chips are treated with water by feeding the polyester chips and water for treatment into a treating tank, the water for the treatment is separated from the polyester chips discharged with the water for the treatment from the treating tank and by performing successively washing treatment, fine content of the polyester is decreased to at most 100 ppm.
