LEATHER-TOUCH PILE FABRIC AND METHOD OF MAKING SAID FABRIC

A leather-touch pile fabric in an identifiable double layer structure consisting of an upright hair-like raised fiber layer and down-like raised fiber layer which is used as artificial leather. The method of this invention provides a pile fabric knitted of pile yarns composed of a mixture of polyester fibers in finite length sharpened at tips to be used as upright hair-like fibers and other polyester fibers in finite length to be used as down-like fibers more likely to be eroded by alkali treatment than said polyester fibers that compose said upright hair-like fibers, in which, after adding alkaline treating agent (6) having a specific viscosity to the surface of a raised fiber layer of said knitted pile fabric, heat-treatment is applied to said fabric so as to shorten the length and sharpen the tip of each down-like fiber, whereby a pile fabric (1) having upright hair-like raised fibers (2) sharpened at tips and down-like raised fibers (3) sufficiently uniform in length is obtained.
