摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reversibly transit two different states having memory property only by electric stimulation by forming a state with minute solids locally distributed between substrates and a state with minute solids dispersed between substrates to produce a transparent state and light-transmitting state in the mixture for display. SOLUTION: The device is equipped with a hollow cell with electrodes 11, 12 disposed facing each other and substrates 13, 14 supporting the electrodes 11, 12 facing each other, and a mixture of a low mol.wt. liquid crystal filling the hollow cell and a plurality of minute solids 15 having the thickness smaller than the gap between electrodes, and a voltage applying means 16 to apply a voltage between electrodes 11, 12. The state of minute solids 15 locally present between substrates 13, 14 facing each other, and a state of minute solids 15 dispersed between substrates are formed so as to generate a transparent state and a light-transmitting state in the mixture for the display. By this structure, two states having different transmittance and memory property can be reversibly made to transit only by electric stimulation.
