PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of always preventing the float of originals without being influenced by the shape of the warpage of an original pressing plate main body. SOLUTION: An original pressing means 4 bringing the original S into contact with the surface of a contact glass 1 is constituted of the original pressing plate main body 4A which presses the original S and whose center part is swollen upward, a press-contact sheet member 2 provided on the lower surface of the main body 4A and coming into press-contact with the original S placed on the surface of the contact glass 1, and an elastic plate material 3 arranged between the main body 4A and the member 2 so as to fix the main body 4A and the member 2. And, the material 3 on which the member 2 is fixed is fixed at the periphery part of the main body 4A in a state where a gap G is formed between the center part of the main body 4A and the material 3, and a projecting part 15 extended over the gap and pressing the material 3 in an original S direction is provided in the center part of the main body 4A, thereby, the material 3 and the member 2 are prevented from profiling the warpage of the main body 4A.
