PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To downsize drive device for a rotary machinery in the direction of an output shaft while maintaining the interchangeability with respect to a presently used general-purpose drive device, and to apply this drive device to a garbage disposer which can therefore be compact. SOLUTION: In a drive device 40 for a rotary machine, comprising a motor 42, a transmission 44 for transmitting rotation from the motor shaft 42A of the motor 42 to an output shaft 52, and a gear box 46 for storing the transmission 46, the motor shaft 42A is extended perpendicular to the output shaft 52 so as to shorten the drive device in the direction of the output shaft 52. Bolt holes 54 for attaching the drive device to an associated machine are formed in the gear box 46 in parallel with the output shaft 52 at apex positions of an imaginal square in a plane perpendicular to the output shaft 52, and the output shaft 52 is extended so that the center axis of the output shaft 52 is located at a position shifted from the center of the imaginal square 56 and having an equal distant to the adjacent apices.
