PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a background operation(BGO) function while suppressing cost-up by providing a memory location switching means for switching first and second memory locations. SOLUTION: This microcomputer is provided with a CPU 1 for running a program built in a flash memory 3 and a predecoder 10 with RAM area shift function. The predecoder 10 is provided with a RAM area shift permission bit 6 for storing information for designating the memory location of this microcomputer and an address predecoder 5. When the RAM area shift permission bit 6 is '0', data in the specified area of the flash memory 3 are transferred to the specified area of a RAM 4 and the first memory location is provided. By setting the permission bit 6 to '1', the RAM area is shifted onto a flash memory area and the second memory location is provided.
