The invention relates to agents for dyeing and coloring keratin fibers, especially human hair. Said agents contain as the direct colorant at least one 2-nitro-p-phenylene diamine derivative of the formula (I), wherein R<1> to R<4> independently represent hydrogen, a C1-4 hydroxyalkyl group or a saturated, a mono- or polyunsaturated C7-8 ring that is optionally substituted with a C1-4 alkyl group, a halogen atom, a hydroxy group or an amino group, and X represents hydrogen or a halogen atom, with the proviso that at least one of the substituents R<1> to R<4> is a C7-8 ring. The inventive agents facilitate intensive colorations with excellent color fastness properties.
