摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical fiber welding and connecting device in which the connecting end surface of an optical fiber can be observed without any trouble even if a mirror or the like is not frequently cleaned. SOLUTION: Electric discharge electrodes 3a, 3b are arranged via an interval, connecting end surface sides are faced to each other between the electric discharge electrodes 3a, 3b, the connecting end surface sides of first and second optical fibers are arranged and connected by welding with electric discharge heat from the electric discharge electrodes 3a, 3b. When the connecting by welding is executed, observing light emitted from a light source 4 is reflected to the connecting end surface side of the first and second optical fibers with mirrors 2a, 2b, the optical fiber image obtained by the light reflected with the mirrors and transmitted through the first and second optical fibers is picked up with a TV camera 5, and the connecting end surfaces of the optical fibers are observed. A clouding preventing device 7 restraining the clouding of the reflecting surface of the mirror 2a caused by the deposition of optical fiber refuse generated in connecting by welding the optical fiber is provided in the reflecting surface side of the mirror 2a connected to the low voltage side 20 of an electric discharge power source 6.
