PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rectangular alkaline secondary battery having an improved large-current discharging characteristic. SOLUTION: This secondary battery is provided with: a bottomed rectangular pipe-like metal container 1 also serving as a negative electrode terminal; and an electrode group 2 received in the container 1 and having a structure wherein a positive electrode 4 and negative electrodes 51-54 each having a collector 6 at its upper end part are alternately stacked through a separator 3 and the negative electrodes are positioned on the outermost layer; the negative electrodes 51-54 are electrically connected to one another through the collectors 6, and at least part of each of the collectors 6 of the negative electrodes 51, 54 positioned at the outermost layer of the electrode group is welded to the inside surface of the container 1. |
