PURPOSE: A device for controlling sound volume is provided to allow a user to set up maximum sound volume. CONSTITUTION: A device for controlling sound volume includes a sound volume controller(110), a maximum sound volume limiter(120), a power amp(130), a speaker(140) and a micom(150). When a user manipulates a sound volume controlling switch or pushes a sound volume controlling button of a remote controller, the micom(150) generates corresponding volume controlling signal. The sound volume controller(110) receives audio input signal, controls sound volume to level corresponding to the sound volume controlling signal from the micom(150), and outputs audio signal. In case level of audio signal inputted from the sound volume controller(120) is lower than level set up by level controlling signal inputted from the micom(150), the maximum sound volume limiter(120) outputs the audio signal as it is. In case level of audio signal inputted from the sound volume controller(120) is higher than level set up by level controlling signal inputted from the micom(150), the maximum sound volume limiter(120) limits the audio signal to the level set up by the level controlling signal and outputs the audio signal. The power amp(130) amplifies the audio signal inputted from the maximum sound volume limiter(120) to audible signal level, and outputs the audio signal to the speaker(140).
