<p>A system (100) for transmitting data between a rotating system (111) and a stationary system (102). This system (100) has N patch antennas (203-206) affixed to the surface of a rotating system (111). A transmitter (215) splits an RF signal into N identical RF signals. The N RF signals are phase shifted to have phases that are 360 divided by N degrees apart. The RF signals are then sequentially applied to the N patch antennas (203-206) which broadcast the RF signals. A stationary receive antenna (501) receives broadcast RF signals from one of the N patch antennas (203-206) at a time. As a first antenna (203) rotates out of range of the receive antenna (501), second antenna (204) rotates into range. The phase shift between the RF signals broadcast between from the first and second antennas (203, 204) assures that data is not lost as the rotation occurs.</p> |
