The hydrodynamic device comprises preferably two bucket wheels (18, 38) driving a work fluid which is electrically conductive. A device (34) is provided for producing a magnetic field which lies in the region of the work fluid circulation whilst a further device (82) is provided for producing an electric current flow through the work fluid. The magnetic field direction is at least in one area non-parallel and preferably orthogonal, to a flow direction of the work fluid in this area.
