METHOD FOR RECORDING VARIABLE PLAYBACK MANAGEMENT INFORMATION AND FOR VARIABLY PLAYING BACK DATA OF HDVD

PURPOSE: A recording/playback method of an HDVD(high density digital versatile disk) is provided to manage the recording position of video data including I-picture data available for random access. CONSTITUTION: To record the variable playback management information of an HDVD, the recording position of video data recorded on the HDVD and available for random access is checked. Corresponding data of the checked recording position are recorded on header data having a specific recording unit. Herein, the variable playback management information is used to search and manage the recording position of video data including I-picture data available for random access. The variable playback management information is generated and recorded depending on recording unit and recording characteristics of the HDVD. In a variable playback mode, the recording position of the video data is selected searched based on the variable playback management information. Therefore, the video data are played back.
