Production of arylaminohydroxyanthraquinones (I) by reacting corresponding chlorohydroxyanthraquinones (II) with an amine (III). In the production of arylaminohydroxyanthraquinones of formula (I) by reacting corresponding chlorohydroxyanthraquinones of formula (II) with an amine of formula (III), (III) is used in an excess of 10-100% with respect to 1 mole (III)/chlorine (Cl) atom in (II) and reaction is carried out in the presence of base(s), selected from alkali(ne earth) metal carbonates and alkali metal acetates and phosphates, in an inert solvent; R<1>, R<2>, R<3>, R<4> = hydroxy (OH) in at least one case and -NH-Ar in at least one case, otherwise hydrogen (H); R<5>, R<6>, R<7>, R<8> = Cl in at least one case and OH in at least one case, otherwise H; Ar = aryl, optionally mono- or poly-substituted with the same or different substituents.
