PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a paper feeding cassette compact without enlarging a device even for an increased load capacity of paper sheets by providing a receiving member for loading sheets movably in the vertical direction, and providing an exciting means exciting the receiving member upward in the middle of the longitudinal direction of the receiving member. SOLUTION: The paper feeding cassette serving as the sheet feeding device in a laser printer is provided with a paper pressing plate 53 serving as the receiving member for loading paper sheets and a spring 54 serving as the first exciting means for exciting the paper sheets toward the paper loading side from the back side. A holder member guide groove extending along the longitudinal direction is formed at the center section in the width direction of the front plate 63 of the paper pressing plate 53, and a slide guide section formed on a housing section 74 provided on the holder member side is slidably coupled with the guide groove. The housing section 74 is excited upward by a spring 89, and the paper pressing plate 53 is made adjustable in height via a rocking arm 92.
