PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel process for more effectively preparing a siloxane linkage-containing polymer which is industrially useful as a variety of functional materials. SOLUTION: A process comprises the reaction of 1,4-bis(dimethylsilyl)benzene with water in the presence of at least one catalyst selected from the group consisting of Pd-carbon, PdCl2, Pd2(dba)3 (wherein dba means dibenzylidene acetone), [RhCl(cod)]2 (cod means cyclooctandiene), RhCl(PPh3)3 (wherein PPh means triphenyl phosphine), H2PtCl2.6H2O and Pt(PPh3)4.
