The invention relates to a method for operating a motor vehicle braking system (10), comprising a slip control device. According to the invention, in order to prevent an unusually rapid increase in the control force on the brake master cylinder (12), when the latter is actuated during slip control which occurs as a result of a brake pressure built up by a pump (38), a braking-pressure relief valve (34, 54) of at least one wheel-brake cylinder (22) is opened in such a way, that the control force on the brake master cylinder (12) is increased to the level which prevails during braking without slip control.
