The locking element (10) has a retainer opening formed by a pull-in opening and a locking opening. The locking opening (16) is a half-open recess, for non-turnable and non-tiltable holding of the front section of a first chain link, which applies a tension force to the locking element. The element is angled along its central line (11), forming a V-ridge, two legs, and a V-shaped hollow chamber. The locking opening has an anti-turning/tilting device (17,18) for the first chain link.
