PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive circuit that can arbitrarily change the speed of a single-phase induction motor. SOLUTION: In this single-phase induction motor, a rotor is rotatably mounted into the rotor insertion hole of a stator core, where stator coil winding consisting of a primary coil is wound in a motor drive circuit 11, and a pair of shading coils are provided near the rotor insertion hole of the stator core, while the rotor is put between the shading coils. The single-phase induction motor is equipped with an inverter circuit 12, that alternately turns on and off transistors Q1 and Q2 which are connected to both ends of a stator coil winding 7 for energizing the stator coil winding 7 with an alternate voltage, and a drive control circuit 14 that has a frequency variable means for setting commutation timing for switching the current flowing in the stator coil winding 7 and controls the on/off operation of the inverter circuit 12.
