PURPOSE: A refrigerator with a locking apparatus and a controlling method thereof are provided to easily lock and unlock a door of the refrigerator through a select input unit and to recognize locked state of the door through a display unit. CONSTITUTION: A refrigerator comprises a cabinet forming at least one cooling chamber; a door installed on the cabinet; a locking apparatus(21) locking and unlocking the door; and a display unit(11) installed on front surface of the door. Herein, locking or unlocking of the locking apparatus is selected. Then, a password is input for deciding identification of the input password and a stored password. By identification, the locking apparatus is locked or unlocked according to selection. Then, the locked state of the locking apparatus is displayed on the display unit.
