PURPOSE: A transmission pattern of a driver's usual driving habit is stored. If the driver does not react properly at a driving condition, a transmission mode is switched to the stored transmission mode. CONSTITUTION: In a transmission mode switching method of a transmission system having a manual and an automatic transmission mode, an opening degree of a throttle valve, an operation of an accelerator pedal, an operation of a brake pedal, and a transmission stage are stored to learn data of transmission state of each condition. When switching from the automatic transmission mode to the manual transmission mode, a driving state of the automobile is determined by the opening degree of the throttle valve, the operation of the accelerator pedal, then the learned transmission gear stage of the previous step is accessed. A current transmission gear stage is detected, and is compared with the accessed transmission gear stage. If the compared two transmission gear stage are not identical, the manual transmission mode is released, and the automatic transmission mode is acted to control the current transmission gear stage to the accessed transmission gear stage.
