Optical carrier read/write device uses a polarization-direction control device, such as a reflecting layer which rotates the direction of polarization and in any case advantageously forms part of a device already in the recorder for deflecting the light beam. An independent claim is given for an optical carrier read/write device having an element, such as small plate, for rotating the direction of polarization depending on the frequency, as the direction-of-polarization influencing or control device, and for carrying out any desired separation of light of a different frequency in a simple manner, the light source having for example several laser diodes for generating light at different wavelengths..
