The support for a rotating roller mantle (3) around a fixed axis (2) has hydrostatic units (20) with controls (30) to apply inner pressures on the mantle (3). The control (30) gives an automatic control action with a mechanical link to the hydrostatic unit (20), through an intermediate force loading shoe (21), to compensate for a force (F) which is applied externally. The roller mantle (3) is pressed by the hydrostatic unit (20) against the force (F) line with a support action against the roller axis, so that the hydrostatic unit (20) forms a sliding bearing on the plane (A) of the external force (F). The mechanical link between the control (30) and the hydrostatic unit (20) gives a radial movement of the shoe (21) matching the small movement of the roller mantle (3) in relation to the axis (2), through the effect of the external force (F). The movement is transferred to the control (30) so that the opening gap is enlarged at the flow opening from the control (30) to the hydrostatic unit (20). A spring (40) between the hydrostatic unit (20) and the axis (2) gives a mechanical link with the control (30), and compensates for the radial movements of the control (30) through bending movements of the axis (2). The control (30) acts on one or more hydrostatic units (20). The roller mantle (3) also has hydrostatic side sliding bearings acting on the inner surface (4) of the roller mantle (3), at least at the mantle ends, acting across the force direction on the roller, together with supporting axial bearings on the axis (2). An Independent claim is included for a roller with hydrostatic units (20) and controls (30) to support the rotating roller mantle (3) around the fixed axis (2). Preferred Features: The mechanical link is a longitudinal pin to move the closure at the control (30) on a radial movement of the shoe (21) through an external force (F).
