PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject extending agent which can express a high neural cell process-extending action and a nerve growth factor (hereinafter NGF) action-stimulating ability, by including a steroid compound having a specific structure as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: This agent for extending neural cell processes contains a steroid compound having a 4-ene-3,6-dione skeleton as an active ingredient. The steroid compound preferably includes a compound of the formula (R1 to R3 are each a hydrocarbyl or the like). The steroid compound can be isolated, for example, from the extract of round cardamon (white cardamon). A food containing the steroid compound can be expected to be used as a health food effective for treating, for example, nervous disorders such as dementia. |
