PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image recording device in which the surface of a photoreceptor in hardly scratched, and which has improved maintenance performance. SOLUTION: The position of an intermediate transfer belt 3 is controlled as follows; when the device is not activated, a 1st transfer roller 4 is moved to a position 4b so that the intermediate transfer belt 3 does not come into contact with the photoreceptor 9; on the other hand, when the device is in operation of forming an image, the 1st transfer roller 4 is moved to a position 4a so that the transfer belt 3 may come into contact with the photoreceptor 9. An intermediate transfer body unit 2 attaching/detaching operation is executed from the front side of the device only when the device is not activated and also only when the intermediate transfer belt 3 does not come into contact with the photoreceptor 19. An image forming unit is replaced at the same time and in the same state.
