PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To economically and safely obtain the subject compound useful as an intermediate for producing a specific compound used as an antiulcer agent by reactingα-methylbenzylamine with a specific bromoethanol, a brominating agent and a Lewis acid in order. SOLUTION:α-Methylbenzylamine is reacted with 2-bromoethanol preferably at 40-60 deg.C to obtain N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-α-methylbenzylamine. The N-(2- hydroxyethyl)-α-methylbenzylamine is reacted with a brominating agent (preferably bromine or the like) preferably at 110-145 deg.C to obtain N-(2-bromoethyl)-α- methylbenzylamine hydrobromate. The above hydrobromate is reacted with a Lewis acid (preferably zinc chloride or the like) to obtain the objective compound useful as an intermediate for producing 5,6-dimethyl-2-(4- fluorophenylamino)-4-(1-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolin-2-yl)pyri midine. |
