PURPOSE: To attain miniaturization, even with provision of sufficient read performance and to reduce the manufacture cost. CONSTITUTION: This image reader is provided with a light source 1, that lights up a read object S from its rear side, a read device 2 that scans an image floated up by the light source 1 in a prescribed direction for reading, and a lens 10 that is placed between the read object S and the read device 2 to form the image to the read device 2. The distortion factor of a surrounding part is set large, with respect to that of the middle of the optical lens 10 in the scanning direction.
