摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination system having a simplified structure which can be easily produced, without impairing functions required for an integrator optical system. SOLUTION: This illumination system is produced by using first and second lenticular bodies 11, 12 comprising array structure of cylindrical lenses 9, 10, respectively, instead of a second lens array of a so-called 'integrator optical system' 5, so as to reduce enlarging of the image of a secondary light source as a virtual light source to illuminate an objective body 1. Thus, not only can the number of lenses required be decreased from m×n to m+n, but the device can be easily produced, because it has an array structure of the cylindrical lenses 9, 10 in only a single direction. Since combination of the first and second lenticular bodies 11, 12 can respond to the aspect ratio of the objective body 1 for projection such as a liquid crystal panel, the device can be designed easily, to respond to the aspect ratio.
