PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain the exclusion of the futile operation and the execution of the sure and reliable disk handling operation. SOLUTION: In the disk housing magazine 1, the setting state of an inside tray and the disk is monitored by a tray detecting switch and a disk detecting switch, and the detected information is stored in a memory. Further, this information is transferred to an incorporated CPU of a recording/reproducing device 2 from the disk housing magazine 1 through a communication process circuit. In a recording/reproducing device 2, when the tray transporting command is received from a personal computer(PC) 3, the judgement is made by the incorporated CPU whether the selected tray and disk are normally being set inside the disk housing magazine 1. When the judgement is made by the incorporated CPU that the tray and the disk are in the normal state, the tray transporting operation is executed by the recording/reproducing device 2, and when the judgement is made as abnormal, the information on abnormality is transmitted to the PC 3 so as not to operate the transportation of the tray.
