The invention concerns an injector for injecting fuel in a common rail fuel injection system in an internal combustion engine. Said injector comprises a housing (1) provided with a fuel intake (24) communicating with a high pressure central fuel accumulator, located outside the injector housing (1), and a pressure chamber (27), located inside the injector housing (1) and from which the fuel under high pressure is injected according to the position of the control valve (18) which lifts from a seat a valve needle (8), axially mobile with a reciprocating motion, in an oblong bore (6) of the injector, countering the prestressed force of a nozzle spring (21), when the pressure prevailing in the pressure chamber (27) is higher than that prevailing in the control chamber (15), which is connected, via an intake throttle (19), at the fuel outlet (24). The control chamber (15) is shaped like a cylindrical chamber wherein a control pin (12) formed at the end of the nozzle needle (8) away from the combustion chamber can be moved to produce tightness. Moreover, the nozzle spring chamber (20) is arranged in the end zone of the nozzle needle (8) away from the combustion chamber, outside the control chamber (15).
