Working-up contaminated materials involves thermal treatment with a fuel, such that the contaminants and fuel are both gasified, and oxidizing the combined gas phase. An Independent claim is included for an apparatus with a thermal treatment device, such as a rotary reactor (2), which has a fuel inlet near to the contaminated material inlet, a burner on the gas-side for after-burning, and a device (9) for purifying the exhaust gas.
