A system to provide drivers with a warning of the proximity of an object behind a vehicle when reversing. Sensors at the rear of the vehicle detect an object and a radio frequency transmitter transmits a signal representative of the distance of the object from the vehicle to a radio frequency receiver. The receiver generates a visual and/audible indication to the driver of the proximity of the object to the vehicle. The visual indication may be provided by a series of lights which are illuminated progressively to indicate a reduction in the distance between the object and the vehicle. The transmitter may be detachable for use with a trailer towed by the vehicle. |
